Flying into 2017!

Having enjoyed a great Christmas and New Year, we have had a very busy start to 2017 with lots more planned in the diary.

Following on from Tom’s win in his first ever competition at the beginning of December, Alistair won the Welsh Apprentice Team trials in early January, once more securing his place on the Welsh Team for the coming year. He followed this up with a win in the 3rd & 4th Year Apprentice Class at The Farriers Foundation Winter Ball, and we were delighted to hear Liam also won the Open Class!
Nigel and Alistair are now practising for the Home International in March, this year to be hosted by Wales at the Showground in Builth.

Nigel completed (and exceeded) his CPD requirement for 2016 and already has dates in the diary for 2017. In February he will give a clinic to farriers at the Devon County Showground on behalf of NWT (Horseshoes) Ltd and will also begin to undertake the ‘Train the Trainer Award’ (TTFA) which is now a requirement for all Approved Training Farrier’s should they wish to continue to train apprentices.
It is hard to believe how quickly it comes round but we will shortly be recruiting for our next team member! Alistair will sit his final examinations in November and, whilst we are definitely not kicking him out of the door, it is important to keep the team running smoothly.

Thank you to all who attended a dissection evening in the forge on January 18th. We’ve had some lovely comments and it is always good to be able to explain the work that we do and the reasons behind many of the decisions we make in detail. The leg dissection enables us to provide essential anatomical information that we cannot provide during your appointments (!) and we can also demonstrate the vast number of shoes, nails and materials that we choose from to provide the best for your horses. We have already been asked for another evening – if you are interested please do email and we’ll contact you when we do another.

Finally, it is always great to hear clients are doing well and it was particularly good to see Lucy Morgan with a great write up in Horse & Hound following her superb result at Summerhouse EC. We look forward to watching her progress… Please do keep us up to date with yours!

Looking forward to a great 2017 ahead!
